Not Quite Ordinary Observations

For Today...Tuesday, May 15, 2012

Outside my window...well…a little further than my window…outside in the fields. The growth is amazing. Wheat is several weeks ahead of schedule, and harvest has started. As we journeyed through rural Arkansas over the past couple of days, we were amazed to see how high the corn was and how much the rice had grown. It’s been quite an interesting spring.

I am thinking...about menu ideas.

I am thankful for...books. So many books. And children who love to read them. Oh the worlds they have and will continue to explore through those books!

I am wearing...black knit capris and a white sleeveless pullover top. Hair up in a clip. Black sandals that never came off when I got home from my monthly lunch with the Gleaners Sunday school class.

I am remembering...our last visit with the precious Choates. They are back in Arkansas, and we’ll get to see them again soon. I can’t wait!

I am going...to tame the chaos of this house. This week.

I am reading...The Messenger by Siri Mitchell and Jacob: Journaling the Journey by Michelle Lesley.

I am hoping...that Olivia’s birthday is warm enough for a swim day, but that otherwise the temperatures stay relatively low for at least a few more weeks.

I am hearing...my children playing together in their rooms. So happy. Having so much fun. So very much enjoying one another’s company. That’s a precious sound.

On my mind...a blog post that needs to be written.

Last week in the learning rooms...Olivia: New Zealand, the circulatory system, prepositions, math review; Angela & Steven: homes around the world, plants; Angela: mixed & improper fractions, volume, review of capitalization, punctuation, plurals, synonyms & antonyms; Steven – telling time, subtraction, consonant blends.

Noticing that...Olivia’s math book has gone AWOL. Hmmmm….Ah, she found it!

Pondering these words... Have you ever stopped to consider that God could have made just one food that provided all the nutrition we need? When we see the great variety of foods that grow on plants, we see the great goodness of God. He didn’t content Himself merely with providing for people’s nutritional needs: He created many different things for us to enjoy. ~from God’s Might Acts in Creation by Starr Meade

From the kitchen...Doug and the kids “enjoyed” leftovers today while I went to lunch with the Gleaners. Meanwhile, Doug and I are exploring new crock pot recipes.

Around the house...lots of clutter. Must be tamed.

A favorite thing from last week...watching Mom play with the North Little Rock Community Band in their first outdoor concert of the summer.

A few plans for the rest of the week...school, get the house tamed.
