Not Quite Ordinary Observations

For Today...Tuesday, November 8, 2011

Outside my window...warm, muggy, gray day – the kind of day that ushers in thunderstorms. I haven’t really checked the weather for other locations lately – praying that there aren’t any major storms tearing through the South right now.

I am thinking...about the fact that it’s truly quite easy to delight my children. It just takes a little bit of intentionality and planning. It has been amazing how delighted they have been by our meals lately, all because we took the time last week to truly menu plan.

I am thankful for...every convenience that is making my life easy today; my amazing husband; the way my children find joy in one another, sometimes without even thinking about it.

I am wearing...jeans, short sleeve hot pink sweater with a white collar; brown clogs still on from our morning Wal-Mart trip.

I am creating...a lap desk. That’s what the girls want to give Steven for Christmas. We were going to buy one, but we’ve decided to try to make one, just because we’re crazy like that. We’ll see how it goes!

I am remembering...that I need to drink water today. I haven’t had much so far. Not good!

I am going...to finish Christmas calendars soon. This week would be nice!

I am reading...A Woman’s Guide to Fasting by Lisa E. Nelson.

I am hoping...and praying…recovery goes smoothly for two of our church members who had surgery today.

I am hearing...one of the girls – probably Angela – practicing piano; my squeaky chair.

On my mind...the reminder that the only way I can truly keep cover loved ones in prayer is to stay in tune with my Savior all day long. I let my mind wander so frequently. If I’m not in tune with Him, I can’t respond to His nudges and reminders.

From the learning rooms...microscopes and magnets; World War II; review in both math and language arts for everyone right now.

Noticing that...Steven’s reading is improving daily, it seems!

Pondering these words...
What if you woke up this morning and had only the things you thanked God for yesterday? ~Max Lucado (on Twitter today)

From the kitchen...ham and broccoli quiche. Like I said – delighting the kids doesn’t take much!

Around the house...quiet. The kids are calm today, something that has not been true of the last few days.

One of my favorite things...the fact that my husband misses me when we are apart, even for just a few hours. I miss him too.

A few plans for the rest of the week...Christmas crafts and writing. Oh, and we have to go to the library on Friday. I think that’s it for our “out-and-about” obligations, though! YAY!

A picture worth sharing...I’m all out. I think there might be some new ones on the camera. Need to work on that!
