Not Quite Ordinary Observations

For Today...Monday, January 23, 2012

Outside my window...crisp, cool air, bright sunshine, clear blue sky, and a stout wind. Such a contrast from yesterday’s heavy fog and oppressive feel.

I am thinking...about those I still might need to check on after last night’s storm.

I am thankful that…we haven’t had any reports of friends having injuries or home damage last night. We know of one farm with some damage, and one older couple from our church has a tree down – but, it came down on a fence instead of their house!

I am wearing...black pants, green 3/4 sleeve top.

I am creating...nothing this week, I don’t think. Although I now have the rest of what I need for Angie’s skirt, so I guess I need to get that done!

I am remembering...the calm after the tornado we had when I was in college. It’s amazing how brightly the sun shines when the storm passes.

I am going...to make some adjustments to my week as our plans changed at the last minute.

I am reading...hmm…this is becoming a pattern. I think I need to get back to regular reading!

I am hoping...for an idea of something fun to do for the kids today or tomorrow.

I am hearing...a lot of quiet.

On my mind...a dear friend who just lost her aunt. They were very close.

From the learning rooms...five more weeks. Five more weeks. Then we take a five-week (as long as we can maintain routine and stay sane!) break. Most of our breaks over the past year (or more) have been due to specific plans and obligations. This time it’s just a break. We need that!

In the meantime, we do have some new things we get to check out and review for www.homeschoolconvention.com/reviews. That’ll be fun!

Noticing that...it is starting to cloud up again. I need the sunshine today.

Pondering these words...
People do not drift toward holiness. Apart from grace-driven effort, people do not gravitate toward godliness, prayer, obedience to Scripture, faith, and delight in the Lord. We drift toward compromise and call it tolerance; we drift toward disobedience and call it freedom; we drift toward superstition and call it faith. We cherish the indiscipline of lost self-control and call it relaxation; we slouch toward prayerlessness and delude ourselves into thinking we have escaped legalism; we slide toward godlessness and convince ourselves we have been liberated. ~D.A. Carson

From the kitchen...I don’t know, to be honest. We were expecting to be gone today and tomorrow, and now only Doug will be gone. Guess I need to make some menu adjustments!

Around the house...much laundry needing to be done. Might be a good thing

One of my favorite things...winter. Have I said that before? We’re not getting one this year, but it’s still one of my favorite things. Smile

A few plans for the rest of the week...mostly normal week.

A picture worth sharing...Doug’s birthday dessert. Graham crackers, bananas, chocolate pudding, and Cool Whip. That was a delicious combination!101_0216

I was thinking of you guys when I saw the headline about a tornado in Arkansas - glad you're okay :D

Ohhhh, a five week break sounds wonderful! But then, I don't want to school through the summer, so I'll not complain!

Take care,

Julie

I didn't realize there was a tornado in AR. A true vacation break sounds lovely. BUT I'd rather us get school work done when it's mucky outside (that's what March and April are here). Then we can enjoy the sunshine and gorgeous weather of June and July.
Stephanie, nothing major. There was some damage in the Fordyce area, and then locally we had some relatively minor damage.
