Not Quite Ordinary Observations

For Today...Monday, May 9, 2011

Outside my window...cloudy skies, which is rather odd since it was mostly clear when I went walking this morning.

I am thinking...about the week ahead and how to organize all that needs to be done.

I am thankful for...my wonderful, marvelous family. They are so good to me and put up with so much from me.

I am wearing...sky blue short-sleeve top, blue skort with green, blue, and white flowers.

I am creating...Olivia’s birthday present – she asked for a boy sock doll to go with Susan.

I am remembering...a lot of prayer needs that need to be lifted up.

I am going...to exercise every day this week.

I am reading... for personal pleasure: The Apothecary’s Daughter by Julie Klassen; for review: The Secrets Beneath by Kathleen Fuller. (Just a note : if you’re ever interested in one of the books I’ve listed and want to read the review, I post my reviews every Tuesday at annhibbard.com)

I am hoping...that the levees hold and the flood waters recede. It’s a mess across the state. Thankful that we are not in the direct flooding path right now, but heartsick for all who are.

I am hearing...music, Steven playing, the scratching of pencils as the girls do their Monday morning school work.

On my mind...the fullness of this week and the planning that needs to be done for it, a pastor from a tornado stricken area in AL who is doing a funeral for neighbors who were killed, the need to find ways to encourage and build up my children.

From the learning rooms...a short week; haven’t gotten to school previewing/weekly prep yet, but I think we’re going to be talking about mass merchandising and we’ll be doing more experiments with electrical circuits.

Noticing that...my kids like one another’s company. I like that.

From the kitchen...lunch: parmesan chicken cordon bleu and tortellini. Wow – that sounds a whole lot more involved than it really is! I also need to make bread and granola bars today.

Around the house...everyone occupying themselves on this “independent work” day.

One of my favorite things...an afternoon with a good book. That’s what I did yesterday.

A few plans for the rest of the week...Mon-Thurs: getting as much of the normal week in as possible while also adding in the things that we will not get done for the following week; Fri-Sat: to Fayetteville for Alli’s college graduation; Sat-Tues: to Monroe to visit Grandma and PopPop; Wed-??? (as long as we can keep her!): visit from Mom. I should have a post next Monday, but I just might be having too much fun doing other things!

A picture worth sharing...just below the surface, the ground is still pretty wet from the recent rains and the slow drainage. But, right on top it’s already baked dry and cracking. The effects of wind and direct sun for over a week.

Oh boy, after all the tornadoes I was afraid you might be in the path of the flooding next - glad you're not!

I love seeing how proud Steven is of doing his job - well done!

And good for the girls, doing their independent work on Mondays. Gives you a breather, and good for them :D
